R.E.A.D.Y.

A Self Protection Program

Recognize | Elope | Act | Defend | Yourself

The R.E.A.D.Y. Self Protection Program provides education and practice of

skills supporting improved safety awareness and use of physical safety strategies to build confidence in accessing community opportunities.

Within the structure of an 8 week-class, participants engage in activities that focuses on improving:

  • Confidence in posture

  • Interaction

  • Physical Strategies of self-protection

Participants engage in activities starting at the level of their current abilities and progressively build their skills and understanding of concepts at their own rate.

Each class provides exposure and practice with safety and confidence concepts while providing individualized modifications to meet and yet provide a “just right” challenge for each participant’s growing level of ability that day.

A Loose Structure to the 8-Week R.E.A.D.Y Program:

Wk 1: Focus: Awareness / Recognizing Potential Harm / Escape

Wk 2: Focus: Awareness / Recognizing Potential Harm / Escape

Wk 3: Focus: Self Awareness / Use your Strengths / Act

Wk 4: Focus: Self Awareness / Use your Strengths / Act

Wk 5: Focus: Self Awareness / Use your Strengths / Act

Wk 6: Focus: Use your Strengths / Act / Defend Yourself

Wk 7: Focus: Use your Strengths / Act / Defend Yourself

Wk 8: Focus: Use your Strengths / Act / Defend Yourself

An integral component of the program is the building of these concepts from one class to the next. However, there is heavy repetition of previously taught skills to build familiarity, comfort and greater ability to access the strategies on their own.

R.E.A.D.Y. enrollment is optimal at the start of each program session.

Comfortable active clothing and water bottle is recommended.
